Developing on what I have learned through university demo and do sessions, I applied my knowledge of After Effects to elevate some of the events and marketing materials at Durham Cricket. By adding movement to static graphics, I was able to make the content feel more engaging and help draw attention to key information.
I used animation skills that I had learned through university, including keyframes, scale, movement and opacity. I also used the curve graph to make the motion feel smoother and more natural, rather than having everything move in a flat or robotic way. I then built on this knowledge further through independent learning, using YouTube tutorials to improve specific techniques and understand how to make the animations feel more professional.
This work shows how I am bringing skills learned through university into my on-the-job role. Rather than keeping the learning separate, I was able to apply it directly to real Durham Cricket projects and use animation to improve the final output. For example, as one of the events was fireworks themed, it made sense to add fireworks going off within the animation. This helped the movement feel relevant to the event, rather than being added for the sake of it.
I also created a logo animation for Durham Cricket, which allowed me to bring the club identity to life through motion. This was designed to be used at the start and end of reels, as well as a YouTube intro for match highlights and other video content. By animating the logo, I was able to create a stronger branded opening and closing point for digital content, making the videos feel more professional and consistent. It also gave me the chance to think about how movement can support a brand identity, rather than just being added as a visual effect.
Another key animation I created was for the release of the T20 kit. This connected directly to the kit concept, as the pattern was based around a roaring lion. To bring this idea to life, I separated the lion into different segments and animated them so the mark could build up with movement. This made the kit launch feel more dynamic and helped reinforce the energy of the T20 format. It also allowed the visual identity of the kit to become more than just a static design, extending it into motion for social media and marketing use.
For the events calendar animation, I worked in Adobe Express instead of After Effects. This was because Adobe Express has built-in group animation tools, which allowed me to animate all of the key date boxes more efficiently. Choosing the right software for the task helped speed up the workflow while still producing a clear and effective final outcome.
Overall, this work helped me develop my confidence with motion design and showed how animation can be used to improve marketing materials. It also allowed me to take skills learned through university and apply them directly within my role at Durham Cricket.
This supports me in evidencing KSBs: K1, K2, K5, K7, K16, S1, S2, S4, S9, S10, S12, B1, B2, B4 and B5.
